All-SA S15 playoff referees

2012-07-16 10:25

Cape Town - SANZAR has announced the referee appointments for the Super Rugby qualifiers to be held on Saturday, July 21.
With the Super Rugby regular season now finished, the Australian Conference winning Reds and the top wildcard qualifying Crusaders will host the Sharks and the Bulls respectively.
SANZAR Game Manager Lyndon Bray said the appointments were made after a full season analysis of each official, which in turn saw referees rewarded with strong performances throughout the campaign.
“We are delighted to announce that Jaco (Peyper) and Jonathan (Kaplan) will referee the first matches in this season’s Super Rugby Finals Series,” Bray said.
Bray said that the final appointments consider three key criteria -the overall performance, accuracy of the big calls and the ‘right fit for the game’.
“Referees were reviewed against their overall performance, which takes into consideration their consistency over the whole competition, and form at this latter stage of the competition.”

    Will the Bulls play pink

      MarkSchrade1980 - 2012-07-16 11:11

Don't think so. They playing away yes but the blue does not clash with the red of the crusaders

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-16 11:38

will it make a difference though?

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-16 13:41

      im ron burgundy???

  • lnaude - 2012-07-16 10:44

Sharks will loose with Kaplan, not sure on the record with him, but they seem to loose more often when he has the whistle

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-16 10:46

      Lose or loose?

      Marcel - 2012-07-16 10:47

if the sharks lose then they didn't play well enough, end of story from a sharks supporter

      david.s.duncan.1 - 2012-07-16 10:52

Did anyone else miss the memo appointing Tom as the internet's Grammar Guardian? Must've 'loosed' it somewhere

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-16 12:33

  • deon.louw.7505 - 2012-07-16 10:45

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-16 12:36

Great stuff but i can see the Kiwis and Auzzies making a noise about this selection. and to comment on @tom. read the article these Refs were chosen on their performance not their color. so don't stir the pot. Mohamed Ali (Black) Mike Tyson (Black) Bolt (Black) Williams Sisters (Black) Tiger Woods (Black) and a lot more these Sports men and women are from majority white countries they worked hard to get what they have and succeed nothing was given to them they deserved everything they have achieved .

      dave.short.102 - 2012-07-16 12:10

      Couldnt have said it better!!!

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-16 12:39

  • gawie.krotz - 2012-07-16 11:10

Great choice by sanzar.I think they are two of the most inform referees in this years S15..the worst referee must be stewe welsh..damn that guy irritates me with that amount of errors lol

      cape.maori - 2012-07-16 11:14

I'm more worried about the TMO's!

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-16 11:36

no hug still bryce even at tmo he managed to change the obvious and that's with replay

      margaretha.freyer - 2012-07-16 12:01

      he is very biased..agree!!!

  • jt.thom.3 - 2012-07-16 14:33

Outrageous! If it were two NZ refs there'd be an uproar.

      Caleb - 2012-07-17 03:06

I absolutely agree, but on this completely biased one eyed forum, objectivity is a sin. People here, and Sport24 will completely overlook this fact. And bitch and moan, and cry conspiracy when Antipodean refs are appointed. Hypocrisy at its best.

  • JoffeyCampino - 2012-07-16 15:53

I guess it comes down to this, throw away what's happened in previous games, this is simple knock out rugby now. While the Crusaders are masters at this, don't write the Bulls off, for that matter don't write the Sharks off neither. While Steyn and Hougaard have been poor whole season (including Spies) they'd be put back on the pedestal if they can pull off this near impossible scenario of beating the Crusaders at AMI Stadium. Forget about what's happened in the past, new chapters can be written. If you win, and great season - lose? not so great season - regardless of where you finished. I personally don't think the Bulls will play with pink as the Crusaders red will match too much.

  • steven.chiaberta - 2012-07-16 18:42

Funny how the australasians have no problem giving our refs games that involve SA teams against their sides. Could it be because they no that our refs are the only truly honest ones in the southern hemisphere?

      Caleb - 2012-07-17 03:06

What a load of crap you speak.

  • Caleb - 2012-07-17 03:03

Where are the conspiracy comments about the refs all being from SA, oh look there are none because SA has got their way. No one else complains about reffing appointments but you Saffas, what a sad lot.

  • wouter.dejager.3 - 2012-07-17 07:20

Can't beleive that Jaco Peyper is gettting the Bulls game. He nailed us in the game against the Sharks

      chaplinncharlie - 2012-07-17 15:38

Wouter had a post on here but news24 deleted it. I said the Bulls is going to loose this game because of him. He doesn't get the concept of tackler release and illegal obstruction which the Crusaders love to do... Good luck to the Boys...
