Solomons jumps Kings ship

Cape Town - Kings Director of Rugby Alan Solomons is set to leave the Port Elizabeth-based union after signing as head coach of Scottish side, Edinburgh.

According to the Edinburgh Rugby website, Solomons will link up with the club on August 9 at Murrayfield, and will be assisted by Stevie Scott, who was interim head coach in recent months.

Solomons commented: “This is a very exciting role at a club which has a huge amount of potential. The ambition and desire of everyone involved with the club to do whatever it takes to build its success, and the plans being put in place to achieve that, are very impressive.

“I’m very much looking forward to arriving in Edinburgh, teaming up with Stevie and meeting the challenges head on.”

The Kings are embroiled in a desperate fight to stay in Super Rugby having lost their first promotion-relegation playoff match 26-19 at home to the Lions last Friday.

The second clash is at Ellis Park on Saturday (17:00 kick-off).

The Kings have to win by at least eight points or with a four-try bonus point to retain their Super Rugby spot in 2014.
