Adongo swaps Kings for NFL

Cape Town - Kenyan-born Kings loose forward Daniel Adongo has made the leap from Super Rugby to the NFL.

The Indianapolis Colts announced on Thursday that they have signed the 23-year-old as an outside linebacker.

It's an incredible transfer for a player who has just come off a season of Super Rugby with the Kings in South Africa.

Adongo first emerged in Kenyan age grade teams before being snapped up by the Sharks academy then the Bulls Super Rugby squad in 2011.

However, he was released early from that contract after being persuaded by Counties-Manukau coach Tana Umaga to try his hand in New Zealand's NPC.

Adongo played 13 matches for the Steelers in last year's NPC before heading back to South Africa to join the Kings.

Adongo played five matches for the Kings in this year's Super Rugby, as well as four matches for the EP Kings.

At 1.97m and 112kg he is well known for his muscular physique and is perfectly built for the NFL.

"We are excited as an organisation with the acquisition of Daniel Adongo," Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said on the organisation's website.
