'Suzie' strikes the Chiefs

Cobus Claassen

Pretoria –  The “Suzie” rumour has struck in New Zealand again, after the Chiefs were forced to change hotels ahead of the Super 14 final against the Bulls in Pretoria on Saturday.

But South African officials say this was an administrative error made by SANZAR. The Chiefs side would’ve stayed in the same Southern Sun hotel as the Boks, who are preparing for a practice match against a Namibian XV side in Windhoek on Friday night.

The Chiefs have since been booked into the five-star Sheraton.

Some New Zealand journalists, though, are finding it very suspicious.

The New Zealand newspaper Waikato Times reported on its website that there is a quite a bit of suspicion about the double booking.

The "old tricks" to which the media is referring is the conspiracy theory which supposedly led to a certain Suzie "poisoning" the All Blacks before the 1995 World Cup final against the Boks.

New Zealand’s renowned rugby writer, Duncan Johnstone, also suggested on a website that there is "suspicion in the air".

But Chief executive of the Chiefs, Gary Dawson, has said the team is "quite satisfied" with the Sheraton Hotel and their training is being carried out without any disruptions.
