Hurricanes snatch late win

Garrin Lambley

Cape Town - The Hurricanes have snatched a late bonus-point victory over the Chiefs to keep their Super 14 playoff hopes alive on Saturday.

The Hurricanes won 33-27 after trailing 24-15 at half-time.

The Hurricanes' four tries were scored by fullback Cory Jane, centre Ma'a Nonu (2) and prop Neemia Tialata. Flyhalf Aaron Cruden landed two penalties and a conversion, while replacement scrumhalf Piri Weepu added a penalty and a conversion.

The Chiefs replied with four tries of their own, through centre Jackson Willison, prop Sona Taumalolo, fullback Tim Nanai-Williams and flank Liam Messam. Flyhalf Callum Bruce kicked a penalty and two conversions.

The Hurricanes picked up a full-house of five points for their efforts and moved into sixth position in the standings on 32 points - only two points adrift of the top four.

The Chiefs left with two points - for scoring four tries and losing by seven points or fewer - and moved into eight spot on the log.
