Great expectations for Bulls

Pretoria – It was no coincidence that people were queuing at the Loftus Versfeld ticket office on Monday.

Yes, the Bulls may be playing the Sharks on Saturday, but no Bulls supporter will be prepared to stand in the cold and rain if there aren’t massive expectations attached to their team.

And there is good reason for the Loftus faithful to be excited. The Bulls are leading the Super 14 log and things are looking good after their brilliant last 30 minutes against the Lions at the weekend.

Bakkies Botha completed Monday morning’s training session without problems and did not experience any problems in the wake of his recovery from an injured heel in spite of the heavy field.

That can only mean that Botha is ready to take on the Sharks.

There should be more clarity on Tuesday as to whether the lock is ready to start or whether he will be used as a substitute.

In previous years, Botha would return in the starting line-up and play as long as his legs allowed. Last season it was an unexpected 50 minutes.

It can be expected, therefore, that Bulls coach Frans Ludeke will follow this route again.

Fourie du Preez will return as scrumhalf.

i believe the sharks will be as tough to beat as the Reds this saturday.......Natal's defence is now solid and Pienaar is finally consistent in general play and kicking as well!!i fink da bulls will score more tries then the Sharks and i rate van den heever will get a brace, but the Sharks will score through the forwards and will go for drop goals......sharks by 3

On paper, the Bulls should take the Sharks but as they say, they are playing on grass and the ball is not round. As a Shark supporter, I must support my team and hope we see an upset. Sharks record is good up north.

    Welcome back Bakkies !

  • William Shakespeare - 2010-04-27 10:13

Ever since their upset win in the 1990 Currie Cup Final even against the mighty Naas Botha, at Loftus (18-12,I remember it well and with great pain) the Sharks have never been intimidated at Loftus. This factor, combined with their complete lack of anxiety (because now they have nothing to lose) and resurgent skills and confidence - to say nothing of the bedrock captaincy of their newfound loosehead prop - will make them formidable opponents and almost certainly deliver a cracking contest. What sank the Bulls in 1990 was complacency. This will not be the case on Saturday. And of course we will have Bakkies back - the strongest man in the world - who will at the very least be bending the bench. Bulawayo-based-bok I respect your comments. But the Sharks beating a full-strength Bulls side, playing their A-game, at Loftus? I dunno so much. *rubs hands in anticipation*

The pic at the top of this story should come with an age restriction..... Should be a great game regardless - BRUTAL. Looking forward to the battle of the forwards.

It is good for the sharks fans to build confidence by increasing their ego's. The Bulls is a great rounded team. The team is in the same position as last year and i am hearing the same noises from Sharks supporters. BULLS by 15. Blou Oog
