Stormers SA's best S15 bet?

2011-11-02 12:05

Cape Town - This year's beaten semi-finalists, the Stormers, are the bookies' favourites to once again fly the South African flag in next year's Vodacom Super Rugby tournament.

The Stormers, who were beaten 29-10 in the semi-finals by the Crusaders at Newlands this year, are quoted as South Africa's best bet at 6/1 to win next year's title, by bookmakers

The Crusaders have been installed as 3/1 favourites, followed by defending champions, the Reds, at 4/1.

The Sharks (13/2), Bulls (10/1), Lions (33/1) and Cheetahs (40/1) are next best among the SA contingent.

New Zealand's five franchises confirmed their squads on Wednesday, with the Melbourne Rebels having done so on Tuesday.

No date has been set for the confirmation of when the South African squads will be named.

I am a Stormer, and also thikns that will never happen. No chance in hell.

      Trompie - 2011-11-02 14:19

Would there be anybody on this planet who would bet money on the Stormers to win the competition??? The bookies must have lost their marbles!!

  • Nico - 2011-11-02 12:39

mmmm, based on what? think I'll risk some money on the Lions, their form and the odds makes it a good bet :)

  • Richard - 2011-11-02 12:39

    bwahahahahahahah .....

  • Michael - 2011-11-02 12:43

Most unlikely with their current lack of oomph in their tight 5 - particularly at prop. At 33/1 the Lions could be a good bet to top the South African sides. Remember the side that fares worst in the conference will be going down!

  • philip.spies - 2011-11-02 12:45

The Stormers have been the "favourites" for the past couple of years, and WP have been the favourites in the Currie Cup. We all know what happens year after year...

  • werner.brand - 2011-11-02 12:49

best joke of the year lmfao

  • Gavin - 2011-11-02 12:54

Depends who plays for what team when the time comes.

  • PAvdWal - 2011-11-02 12:56

God, i love stand up comedy in the afternoon. these Stormer Guys are a bloody hilarious lot.....When last did that team win anything that remotely resembles a cup? There are young people in the cape that have grown up to young adults without having felt how it feels to win a cup. But i will give them this, they never falter in hope.

  • Groenkoors - 2011-11-02 12:57

Yeah right, with players leaving by the truck load and Allister and Rassie apparently also on their way the Stormers are more likely to finish last. Not to mention Habana sticking around for another 3 years :)

      Martin - 2011-11-05 13:13

Dont start with Habana, he is world class when Butch is flyhalf, start by getting rid of the current slow and pathetic 8,9,10 off the bokke.

  • Koos - 2011-11-02 12:58

    APRILFOOL ? ? ? ? ? ?

  • vanrooyenmara - 2011-11-02 13:09 julle maak my dag!

  • Koos - 2011-11-02 13:21

Newlands has become more like a old age home ,than a rugby stadium.

  • Maarten - 2011-11-02 13:29

Rob Houwing? Making predictions again? We all know what happened the previous 3 years to your favorites!

      Peter - 2011-11-02 14:58

Where did he make a prediction? He merely reported on what the bookies said, oh and did you notice the question mark in the title..

      Maarten - 2011-11-03 07:26

@Peter, yeah... Just like last year it was supposed to be the Sharks, the year before Also the Stormers... I rather enjoy watching the man assault his name with a plank. As to "The Bookies say", I would also quote others if I got it so wrong all the time.

  • Johan - 2011-11-02 13:31

Here they go AGAIN!! Will they NEVER learn!!!

  • Epher - 2011-11-02 13:35

Never trust a bookie! The Stormers/ WP have not won anything, One can safely say they are the SA's chokers!

  • martin.gee.godfrey - 2011-11-02 15:00

Oh please, WP (which is virtually The Stormers anyway) couldnt even get to the Currie Cup final and now they are being installed as favourites for the S15! Who writes this stuff anyway??

      Peter - 2011-11-02 15:11

The bulls, more than once were the Currie cup champs and the super rugby wooden spooners in one season.

  • Peter - 2011-11-02 15:08

They're just giving them the best chance, that doesn't mean they'll win it. They were after all the only sa team to make the semis last year. So why people find it so strange is really strange in itself. Remember provincal bias does not come into play when these guys set the odds.

  • Pieter - 2011-11-02 15:13

BWA BWA BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!! They'll do the same than in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011. JOKERS OF WORLD RUGBY

  • Pieter - 2011-11-02 15:16

Want some easy money? The Bulls are 10/1. So just put R100, 000 on the Bulls and you are a millionaire at the end of the Super-15

      Tony - 2011-11-02 15:43

Ek het 'n beter option vir op die Leeus (wat anyway bokant jou Kalfies gaan eindig) en dan vat jy daai geld en koop vir jou 'n brein.

  • Anton - 2011-11-03 13:12

Ag Shame Stormers blowing smoke up their own Asses again...Do you realise you still have to play and win, or are you just going to buy it outright?? Have you ever won the Super 10, Super12 or Super15??? Never??? Ag Shame Dream on for another year..

      Robs - 2011-11-07 14:37

Read the article again and use your brain this time. The one upstairs. The bookies put the Stormers chance to win as the best among the SA teams. Overall the Crusaders are first for a win and the Reds second. If you can remember you will recall that the Stormers did win the SA Conference of the S15 this year. And if the Stormers want to support their team then so be it. Were the Bulls in any semi final this year?

  • Jed - 2011-11-04 07:26

Bulls 10/1 they should not even be there. The Bulls cant win with out a ref on there side.

  • Robs - 2011-11-07 15:02

Maybe what we should do is to put R10 000 000 on the Cheetahs and then our best players go play for Cheetahs. That's a nice R400 Mill.
