Cape Town - In the aftermath of the earthquake measuring 6.3 in magnitude to strike Christchurch, several sportsmen have voiced their concern and support for those affected.
New Zealand Black Caps all-rounder Scott Styris, currently in India for the Cricket World Cup, tweeted:
“Hope everyone in Chch is ok. Some worried boys here in India. Be safe.”
Hurricanes prop Neemia Tialata also tweeted his disbelief:
“Are you serious another earthquake hitting Christchurch!!! 6.3 hope you all good chch tweeps prayers are with y’all right now…”
Injured Hurricanes scrumhalf Piri Weepu:
“Just feel so helpless watching people!! Just wish you could do something in some way to help.”
Chiefs loose forward Liam Messam sent out a message to his pals in the Crusaders side:
“Hope our Crusader brothers are safe. Sad day in Christchurch.”
Joe Rokocoko, currently in South Africa as the Blues prepare for their match with the Sharks this weekend, also voiced his dismay:
“Just woke up on r 1st day in africa and just herd abot the sad news in christchch, thinkng of you all, happy 2 hear my sister is safe.”
Springbok and Sharks skipper John Smit added:
My thoughts and prayers for all our New Zealand friends affected by the earthquake. God bless
