Whiteley pays tribute to departing Meyer

Cape Town - Lions and Springbok eighthman Warren Whiteley has paid tribute to the passion of Heyneke Meyer, after the Springbok coach asked not to be considered for a further tenure as Springbok coach.

Whitely joined Bafana Bafana footballer Dean Furman and award-winning musician AKA on this week’s episode of The Dan Nicholl Show, to be shown on SuperSport 1 at 19:00 on Wednesday.

“As a player you have a lot of respect for a coach who has that much passion for the game,” Whitely said.

“It’s clear to see that he’s a man who lives and dies by his team.”

Whitely also spoke of his excitement about this weekend’s sold-out HSBC World Rugby Cape Town Sevens, and his own ambitions to be part of the 2016 Olympic Sevens squad in Rio de Janeiro.

Whiteley turned out to be one of two rugby players on the show, with AKA revealing he’d played lock while at school at St. John’s.

Furman spoke of his Bafana experiences and being back in South Africa, a country he left at the age of five, while cricketer Jacques Kallis also makes an appearance on the show, on safari with host Dan Nicholl.
