Cape Town - Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth is set to return to full training this week after recovering from a foot injury he sustained against England at Twickenham two weeks ago, but Warren Whiteley is doubtful for Saturday’s Test against Scotland in Edinburgh.
The experienced lock was not considered for the Test against France last Saturday, with the Springbok medical team giving him time to recover as there are still two tour matches, against Scotland and Wales, remaining.
Rassie Erasmus, Director of Rugby, confirmed on Monday that Whiteley (loose forward) is in doubt for Saturday’s clash against Scotland at Murrayfield because of a calf problem.
“Warren has a calf injury and I would say he is doubtful for Saturday,” said Erasmus.
“Vincent Koch and Frans Malherbe (props) both have some bumps and we will be cautious with them, but I think they will be fit to play.”
Erasmus said the Springboks can brace themselves for a very tough match against Scotland. The Scots beat Fiji 54-17 at home over the weekend.
Kick-off on Saturday is at 19:20 (SA time).
