Van Graan sole survivor from Meyer era

Cape Town - Johann van Graan is the only member of former Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer’s coaching staff still contracted to SARU.

Meyer resigned from his position late last year following the Springboks’ failure to win the Rugby World Cup in England.

According to Rapport, it’s still unsure what Van Graan’s role will be when the next Bok coach is named.

He was forwards coach under Meyer and also helped with the attacking side of things.

Meyer’s other assistants - John McFarland (defence), Ricardo Loubscher (backs) and Pieter de Villiers (scrum) - have not been offered new contracts for the Springbok management team.

The new Springbok coach is expected to be named at the end of March, with the likes of Allister Coetzee, John Plumtree, Johan Ackermann and Rassie Erasmus mentioned as possible candidates.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
