Cape Town - SA Rugby is likely to scrap the traditional Springbok selection panel when the new national coach is announced.
According to Rapport, the decision was taken at SA Rugby’s executive meeting on Friday.
According to the weekly newspaper, South Africa’s Super Rugby coaches will help the new Bok coach pick the team.
Former Stormers coach Allister Coetzee will in all likelihood be named Springbok coach, with his appointment set to be made official on April 12.
The expectation is that Nollis Marais (Bulls), Franco Smith (Cheetahs), Johan Ackermann (Lions), Gary Gold (Sharks), Deon Davids (Kings) and Robbie Fleck (Stormers) will meet with Coetzee and Peter Jooste on a weekly basis to discuss their players’ form.
SA Rugby's high performance manager Rassie Erasmus will also assist in an advisory role.
Jooste was last week re-appointed as Springbok selector, but Ian McIntosh was not retained.
