Springboks' 2017 loose forward merry-go-round

Cape Town - Springbok coach Allister Coetzee has been incredibly loyal in his team selections this year, almost to a fault.

He has backed players when they have been disappointing and has been keen on building as much continuity as possible.

But, in the loose forward trio, Coetzee has fielded no less than 8 different combinations in the 12 Tests the Boks have played this year.

Some of that has been down to selection, but a lot of it has been down to player availability.

When the Boks take on Wales in Cardiff on Saturday, they will be forced into changes in that department once more.

Duane Vermeulen and Francois Louw are both unavailable as they return to their European clubs, while Siya Kolisi is back in the mix as he returns after being in South Africa for the birth of his child.

With Pieter-Steph du Toit likely to hold onto his place in the No 7 jersey, Coetzee is likely to give Kolisi the No 6 jersey while Oupa Mohoje, Uzair Cassiem and Dan du Preez are options at No 8.

Here, we take a look at how the Boks have set up in the back row throughout the year.
