Cape Town - Munster have confirmed that Head of Athletic Performance Aled Walters will depart the province in March, with reports linking him to the Springboks.
Walters, in his sixth season with Munster, joined the Irish team in 2012 as a strength and rehab coach, and has previously worked with the Brumbies in Super Rugby and Taranaki in New Zealand.
Although Munster do not mention South Africa, they do reveal that Walters is to lead "a national team’s strength and conditioning programme".
With the squad informed of the departure in December, Team Manager Niall O’Donovan said: "Aled has been an integral member of this backroom team for the past number of seasons, and oversees a great S&C department here within the High Performance Centre where our programmes and processes are well established.
"We thank Aled for his contribution on and off the field, wishing him all the best with the next chapter."
Several reports in South Africa suggest that Walters is set to link up with former Munster and now Springbok rugby boss Rassie Erasmus.
The Springboks are next in action when they take on England in a three-Test series in June.
