Cape Town - England coach Eddie Jones has explained his decision to start with Danny Cipriani at flyhalf in Saturday’s third and final Test against the Springboks at Newlands.
Cipriani’s inclusion at the expense of George Ford is one of three changes to the England starting XV from the one which lost in Bloemfontein last weekend.
Joe Marler is named in the front-row replacing Mako Vunipola, who returned home for family reasons earlier this week, while Chris Robshaw replaces Brad Shields at blindside flank due to illness.
Cipriani will make his first start for England since 2008 but Jones revealed that the pivot may not be his usual attacking self on Saturday.
“We are expecting a wet and windy old day at Newlands and have elected to play Danny Cipriani ahead of George Ford to give us a left-foot kicking option,” Jones told England Rugby’s official website.
“He is a good player, he sees space - opportunities are going to be limited at the weekend and he may be able to take those opportunities for us.
“It’s a different sort of crowd to Bloemfontein and Johannesburg. The crowd are very close to the pitch and are very loud, the track is a little heavier and fewer points tend to be scored.”
England can no longer win the series, having lost the first two Tests in Johannesburg (42-39) and Bloemfontein (23-12).
Saturday’s Test is scheduled for 17:05.
