Cape Town - Francois Hougaard has taken to Twitter to confirm that he will be back on the rugby field sooner than expected.

Hougaard was ruled out of the Springboks' end-of-year tour to the northern hemisphere and was expected to be sidelined for 10 to 12 weeks after his operation.

His club, Worcester Warriors, were furious with SA Rugby after he suffered the injury.

Sport24 reported that it was Worcester who detected Hougaard’s injury when he returned from Rugby Championship duty with the Springboks.

"We are extremely disappointed that Francois returned to the club with an undiagnosed injury," Worcester's high performance director Nick Johnston said at the time.

"The scan confirmed that Hougaard will need a biceps tenodesis and rotator cuff repair and will be ruled out of action for 10 to 12 weeks."

However the 28-year-old had other plans...

Following his successful operation in October, the Springbok scrumhalf hinted on Twitter that he was set to make a quick return.

Worcester’s coach Carl Hogg told Worcester News that he was delighted with the recovery of the South African, saying: "Francois is almost above target. He’s very competitive and always looking to challenge himself and the physios - he’s flying."

Hougaard has made 39 appearances for the Springboks.
