Cape Town - Scrumhalf Francois Hougaard is an injury doubt ahead of the Springboks’ Rugby Championship opener against Argentina in Nelspruit on Saturday.
Hougaard featured for the Springbok Sevens team at the Rio Olympics last week. He travelled with the squad as a non-playing reserve but was called into action when Seabelo Senatla was injured.
According to SA Rugbymag, Hougaard injured his knee in South Africa’s 7-5 semi-final loss to Great Britain.
He joined the Springbok camp on Sunday and after undergoing a medical assessment, a minor knee injury was confirmed.
He will undergo a scan to determine the severity of the injury, after which coach Allister Coetzee will make a decision regarding a replacement.
The other scrumhalves in the Springbok squad are Faf de Klerk and Rudy Paige.
