Cape Town - South African singer Elvis Blue has offered his services to the Springboks, expressing his desire to sing the national anthem ahead of one of their Tests.
Blue, the winner of Idols South Africa Season 6 took to Twitter after the Springboks' 23-12 win in Bloemfontein on Saturday to make the plea to SA Rugby.
"If ever you have no one to sing our anthem again. Please know that it will be the greatest honor for me. I will fly anywhere in the world at my own expense to do it and I will sing it with passion," Blue wrote.
In Johannesburg for the first Test Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika was sung by Freshlyground lead singer Zolani Mahola.
This past weekend, in Bloemfontein, it was the turn of the Tharo Group of Mario Lategan, Thabo Hlongwane and Jacobus Silwer.
Singing the national anthem, of course, doesn't always go according to plan.
In 2009, Ras Dumisani infamously destroyed the anthem before the Boks played France, while, in 2011, Just Jinger lead singer Ard Matthews forgot the words in the SuperSport studios as the Bok squad for that year's World Cup was announced.
Dear @Springboks If ever you have no one to sing our anthem again. Please know that it will be the greatest honor for me. I will fly anywhere in the world at my own expense to do it and I will sing it with passion.????
