Ex-Bok honoured with doctorate degree

Cape Town - Former Springbok and Western Province flank Jan Boland Coetzee received an honorary doctorate degree from the Stellenbosch University on Tuesday.

The 74-year-old received a Doctor of Science in Agriculture (DScAgric), honoris causa.

The university said Coetzee was "honoured for his pursuit of excellence in the development of technology and management in the South African wine industry, and in the crafting of fine South African wines" and "for his generosity of spirit through his selfless dedication to knowledge transfer and engaged citizenship to improve the working and living conditions of farm workers".

Coetzee, who owns Vriesenhof Vineyards in Stellenbosch, played six Tests for the Springboks between 1974 and 1976.

He played for WP between 1967 and 1979 and is also a legendary former Maties player.
