Coetzee sees bright future for Bosch

Cape Town - Springbok coach Allister Coetzee believes Sharks flyhalf Curwin Bosch's big boot could come in handy for the Springboks in the Rugby Championship.

Bosch was one of three uncapped players named in Coetzee's squad after the Super Rugby final on Saturday night, along with Bulls fullback Warrick Gelant and Sharks flanker Dan Du Preez.

The Boks kick off their Rugby Championship campaign against Argentina on August 19 and although Coetzee admits that Bosch may be a bit untested at this level, he sees a bright future ahead for the 20-year-old.

"Curwin has really done well," Coetzee told IOL from Port Elizabeth where the Boks are training.

"It’s great to have him. He’s a talented guy, whether he’s ready now or not, he’s very talented and I think he will definitely play for South Africa in the future.

"So why not give him an opportunity? His out-of-hand kicking is unbelievable and he can kick to the posts as well. So you never know - you might need Curwin in an important match to do that."

Meanwhile, there has been criticism of Coetzee's exclusion of Lions stars Ruan Combrinck and Rohan Janse van Rensburg.

However, Coetzee says it would have been unfair to leave out those players who performed well in the three-match series against France and has opted for continuity.

"It’s always difficult to fit 40 players into 33, and next week it will be difficult to turn 33 into 23, so there will always be unlucky players," the Bok coach said.

"Ruan Combrinck did play well, and Rohan Janse van Rensburg - although he hasn’t started a full game yet - also did well when he came on.

"It’s good to see that they’re performing well, because that shows they want to be in the Springbok camp."
