Coetzee: Our standards have slipped, on and off the field

Cape Town - Springbok standards have slipped ... on and off the field.

That is the view of under-fire coach Allister Coetzee, who could do nothing but acknowledge the failings of his Springbok side upon their arrival back into the country on Monday following a dreadful tour of Europe.

The Boks lost against England, Italy and Wales on their northern hemisphere journey to leave them with 4 test wins from 12 matches in 2016.

Coetzee acknowledged that the Boks were nowhere near good enough, but he also said they were not up to standards in terms of their preparation off the field.

"Importantly, we need to get our standards right back up there ... on and off the field, management included," he said at OR Tambo International Airport.

"There has been a bit of a drop in standards, on and off the field ... in terms of our skill-sets and in terms of the preparation off the field.

"That's the first thing and (resolving) that would enable us to put a better product out there.

"There is a six month period where we can make sure that there is proper preparation and that can help us achieve better results on the field."

Coetzee is set to sit down with the powers that be at SA Rugby on December 9 in a meeting that will review the year and potentially determine Coetzee's future.
