Cape Town - Springbok flank Schalk Burger has asked his long-term girlfriend Michele de Munck to marry him.

According to the Times Live website, de Munck, an interior designer, was spotted wearing a diamond engagement ring at the launch of a social club in Cape Town this week.

The pair have managed to keep their engagement under wraps but this week they confirmed their plans to wed. "We've known each other for a long time, and she's just really a nice girl," said Burger.

"We've known each other for seven years, of which we've dated for six. So that's a very good foundation as we understand each other very well and we laugh together like best friends," enthused de Munck.

"He chose the ring himself because he wanted to surprise me on my birthday. And he did - I didn't suspect anything! It's a cushion-cut diamond, very pretty and unique."
