Cape Town - Reds director of coaching Ewen McKenzie says Springbok fans should respect coach Heyneke Meyer's decisions.
Meyer is often criticised for his playing style and team selections, but McKenzie feels it's only logical that the Bok coach will pick players who fit into what he believes will work.
McKenzie therefore understands Meyer's backing for flyhalf Morne Steyn, who likes to dictate the game with his boot.
"Heyneke has very strong idea about who he wants to play and that's good," McKenzie told Volksblad's website.
"He has been chosen as national coach, and one has to respect that and allow him to do what he feels is right.
"He will obviously pick players that fit into his way of playing and also did it when he coached the Bulls," said McKenzie.
McKenzie's Reds are currently in Cape Town preparing to face the Stormers at Newlands on Saturday (17:05 kick-off).
They lost 27-13 to the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein over the weekend.
