Paulse: Senatla deserved shot

Cape Town - Former Springbok wing Breyton Paulse says Saturday's Test against Wales in Cardiff would have been the ideal opportunity for Seabelo Senatla to make his Bok debut.

The Western Province wing was part of the Springbok touring party for the first three Tests of their European tour but was on Sunday released to join the Springbok Sevens side as they prepare for the next two tournaments in the Sevens World Series.

Due to the fact that Saturday's Test falls outside of World Rugby's Test window, the Springboks aren't allowed to call on their overseas-based players.

This means the Boks face a bit of a problem at wing, with Bryan Habana and JP Pietersen unavailable for the Test.

Paulse, speaking to Die Son, said he found it strange that Senatla was released from the squad, especially with Habana and Pietersen unavailable.

"Many people were excited to see Seabelo in action for the Boks. I think he proved his worth in the Currie Cup and this was the perfect opportunity to test him at international level," said Paulse.

"However, Heyneke (Meyer, Bok coach) has his own thinking processes and I'm sure by taking Seabelo on tour, gave him a chance to grow accustomed to the Boks' structures."

Lwazi Mvovo and Cornal Hendricks are the two likely candidates to start at wing on Saturday, with versatile backs Damian de Allende, Francois Hougaard and Willie le Roux the other options.
