Cape Town - Springbok lock Victor Matfield says poor decision making cost them on their year-end tour to Europe.
After starting the tour with a loss to Ireland, the Springboks rebounded with wins over England and Italy before finishing with a disappointing defeat to Wales in Cardiff.
It was only the second time in history that the Boks had lost to Wales.
"Were definitely not happy with how things went on tour," Matfield told Netwerk24.
"We set high standards for our team and didn't lose a single game on our two previous year-end tours. We're trying to adopt a more attacking approach in our game, but it requires good decision making at crucial times during a game. That's probably the biggest lesson we learnt on this tour.
"Conditions (in the Northern Hemisphere) are a little different and it's of utmost importance to make the right decisions so you can play in the right areas on the field."
