SARU and Bakkies had us scrambling with reports as the veteran lock announced his retirement from international rugby just after the final whistle of today's game!

22 Nov 17:53

A win is a win, but an error-ridden performance from South Africa. Their scrum remains a weak link and the Springbok finishing was notably poor today.

The scoreline is a bit flattering and credit must be given to Italy who played with great passion.

The Boks end their year-end tour against Wales in Cardiff next Saturday.

22 Nov 17:50
FULL-TIME: Italy 6-22 South Africa
22 Nov 17:50
80' - CONVERSION by Pollard.
22 Nov 17:49
79' - Bryan Habana scores against the run of play. Brilliant vision from Le Roux deep inside his own half. He off-loaded to Pollard who broke through to find Habana on the outside...
22 Nov 17:48
79' - TRY to the Springboks!
22 Nov 17:47
77' - Pollard fails to find touch after the Boks win a penalty deep inside their own 22. Italy now throwing everything at them on attack...
22 Nov 17:46

76' - Silly from Italy as they kick possession away while on the attack in the red zone. That puts paid to their chances...

Reserve flyhalf Luciano Orquera is the culprit.

22 Nov 17:45
76' - Italy ferociously attacking inside the Bok 22m area...
22 Nov 17:44

One last chance for the hosts perhaps...

22 Nov 17:42

73' - Cobus Reinach has just been named man-of-the-match.

Yes he scored a try, but not sure he had the best of game though...

22 Nov 17:40
71' - But it's a messy lineout from South Africa... sigh...
22 Nov 17:40

71' - A Bok penalty at scrum time!

Pollard kicks the ensuing penalty deep inside Italian territory...

22 Nov 17:38
69' - A brilliant clearance from Le Roux brings play up to halfway and relief for South Africa...
22 Nov 17:37
68' - But it's a messy lineout from Italy. They knock on to bring relief for South Africa. Parisse should have opted for 3 points there...
22 Nov 17:36

67' - Italy, inside the red zone, win a penalty close to the touchline.

Parisse opts for a five metre lineout...

22 Nov 17:35
66' - Italy get an attacking lineout just outside the Bok 22m area. They must score now if they are to cause an upset...
22 Nov 17:33
65' - As was the case in the Test against Australia at Newlands, the Springbok substitutes appear to have made a massive impact here today.
22 Nov 17:32
Italy prop Martin Castrogiovanni is now off, replaced by Dario Chistolini.
22 Nov 17:30
61' - BOK SUB: Try-scorer Reinach off, replaced by Hougaard,

22 Nov 17:28

60' - CONVERSION by Pollard.

Italy 6-15 South Africa

22 Nov 17:27
59' - Cobus Reinach rounds off under the posts after taking a pass from Carr, who broke brilliantly and off-loaded in spectacular fashion.
22 Nov 17:26
59' - TRY to the Springboks!
22 Nov 17:26
58' - BOK SUBS: Lambie, Goosen off, replaced by Pollard and Le Roux.

22 Nov 17:19
52' - Bismarck immediately gets hot under the collar and is involved in a scuffle with an Italian. He is warned by referee Garces...
22 Nov 17:19
52' - Italian penalty at the ensuing scrum. Another chance gone begging for South Africa...
22 Nov 17:18
51' - BOK SUB: Strauss off, replaced by Bismarck.
22 Nov 17:17
51' - And the Boks stuff up the lineout and lose possession.
22 Nov 17:17
50' - Penalty to the Springboks after Italy collapse the Springbok driving maul. Jean de Villiers opts against 3 points and Lambie sets up a five-metre lineout...
22 Nov 17:16
50' - A dominant driving maul from the Boks brings them back onto the Italian 22m line...
22 Nov 17:14
48' - A terrific kick up field from Haimona brings massive relief for Italy. Another chance gone begging for the Boks after a concerted period of attack inside the Italian 22m area...
22 Nov 17:13
47' - Reinach still makes silly errors. Just like last week when he kicked ahead instead of kicking out after the hooter had sounded...
22 Nov 17:11
45' - The Boks win a kickable penalty. But Reinach decides to take a quick tap and then kicks it away. Very silly there from the Bok scrumhalf. He clearly was not thinking straight there...
  • 80'

TRY, SOUTH AFRICA, HABANA! 6-20: ...and Pollard bursts up field before flinging out a superb pass to Habana, who gets his 57th Test try. Harsh on the hosts but clinical from the Boks.

  • 80'

CONVERSION, SOUTH AFRICA, POLLARD! 6-22: Great strike from the youngster and that's that! Scoreline perhaps a little harsh on Italy but the Boks got the job done, with Habana's try putting a stamp on the win. The Boks will now head to Wales with two consecutive wins under their belt.

  • 80'

  • 77'

That could be Italy's last visit to the SA 22 as the Boks win a penalty and clear... but not to touch! Back come the Azzurri - Toniolatti crashing up. Sustained phases, can they crack the defence? Not the time, stolen by Vermeulen...

  • 75'

Italy turn over the scrum and get a penalty. Orquera on for Haimona as Italy look to strike back. Good grubber but it just evades the chase. SA lineout.

  • 73'

Battle for territory rages on and ends with a penalty to Italy, who then find touch. Howling pass to Haimona is unsurprisingly knocked on. Another scrum!

  • 71'

More changing of possession as knock ons continue to affect the tempo of the game. The SA scrum though finds its groove and wins a penalty. Kicked to touch.

  • 69'

Parisse somehow beats three men out on the wing to claim a cross kick, with Italy winning a penalty from the ruck. Lineout in the corner but the ball is lost! SA scrum by their own line.

  • 68'

Lost forward by Gori this time so here come the Boks, Hougaard now on at scrum-half. SA come into the ruck from the side though and Italy get the penalty.

  • 66'

Italians trying to open things up as Sarto grubbers through. Etzebeth knocks on in the tackle though and Italy will have the scrum as the crowd tries to lift their side.

  • 64'

Penalty goes Italy's way right on their 22, Castrogiovanni with the key play. Haimona clears.

  • 62'

SA purring now as Etzebeth powers forward. Le Roux close to releasing Matfield but the ball goes forward. All the momentum with the visitors now.

  • 60'

CONVERSION, SOUTH AFRICA, POLLARD! 6-15: Easy two for the replacement ten and Italy have a long way to go now.

  • 59'

TRY, SOUTH AFRICA, REINACH! 6-13: Italy with the lineout in their half, secured and Gori clears. Back come the Boks, Le Roux now also on for Goosen and making an impression. Great carry from Du Plessis. Carr now in space and he feeds Reinach for his second try in a week! More urgency from the Boks and it pays off.

  • 57'

Haimona just short of the posts again, having his range tested this afternoon. Carr on for his SA debut.

  • 55'

SA scrum as the errors from both sides continue. Italy's ball as Masi breaks the defence, onto Parisse as they reach the 22. Turned over again! SA clearing but that's a ruck penalty against the Boks for going off their feet. Long way out for Haimona, but he could put Italy ahead.

  • 53'

Again SA pay for overconfidence, with the lineout not being straight and then Italy win a scrum penalty and clear. Could be costly.

  • 51'

Massive drive from the Boks with their maul, reaching the 22. Penalty SA, in range for Lambie but he opts for the corner.

  • 50'

Scrum has been Italy's best weapon and once again it helps them here, getting the ball away to the SA 22. Rolling maul struggles but they have a penalty advantage. There's that penalty and Lambie will boot this to touch.

  • 48'

Pressure from the Boks and it ends with a scrum right on the Italian 22.

  • 46'

Penalty SA and Reinach tries a quick tap, but he's stripped by Gori who's then bundled into touch. SA lineout.

  • 45'

Springboks into the 22 before the chip is well gathered by Italy, who clear through Gori. The hosts escape again.

  • 43'

Couple of resets before Italy come away with it, Haimona's offloads being knocked on. SA breaking wide and well over halfway.

  • 41'

Simple restart for the Boks before Goosen clears. Lost by Italy but SA then knock on, so we'll have a scrum.

  • 40'

PENALTY, ITALY, HAIMONA! 6-8: Over it goes! Haimona cuts the gap to two and Italy stay in touch at the break. Lots of territory and possession for SA but they're struggling to finish off their chances. Italy will be delighted to be so close on the scoreboard and their scrum looks good. Second half coming up.

  • 40'

  • 40'

Sides coming out for the second half, as Italy look to try and create a famous win. Haimona to kick off.

  • 39'

Turnovers across the park but it ends with an Italian lineout on the SA 22. Big chance before the break - they get a penalty. Haimona lines up a shot at goal.

  • 38'

Masi very harshly penalised for allegedly taking out Habana in the air, but he looked to be competing. SA lineout in a good position but the ball is lost at the tail. Penalty to Italy and then go to touch by halfway... but the ball is lost! Sums up the last few minutes.

  • 35'

Italy secure the ball before Haimona finds a good touch under pressure. Nice work.

  • 33'

Great play from Goosen, SA spreading it wide and the full-back gets round his man charging into the 22. Good work from the forwards puts them in range for a try - but that's a knock on from Oosthuizen.

  • 31'

Haimona trying to thread the ball over the top of Habana but the veteran is too experienced, as the kick flies out on the full. SA lineout on halfway.

  • 30'

More good ball off the top for SA at the lineout but this time Strauss gets held up in the tackle, winning themselves a scrum.

  • 28'

Free kick to the hosts and Haimona clears, Italy getting a breather in defence.

  • 27'

Promising attack now for the Boks as Lambie takes them up to five metres out. Sustained pressure before the ball goes wide to Pietersen, but he can't gather the low pass with the line in front of him. Italy scrum.

  • 25'

Italy attack again, reaching the SA 22. Building up the phases but struggling to find that breakthrough for now as the ball slows down. SA rip the ball out of the tackle and Lambie boots it long.

  • 23'

No conversion from Lambie as he just pushes it wide.

  • 22'

TRY, SOUTH AFRICA, OOSTHUIZEN! 3-8: Stolen lineout! What a time to pinch the ball with SA five metres out. Judged as a knock on however, so we have an SA scrum close to the try line. Reinach with a dart but he just avoids touch. Into the middle with De Villiers, can they score? Yes they can! Oosthuizen hits the line on a flat pass and gets over for the first five-pointer.

  • 20'

Safely away this time by SA before Sarto is penalised for pushing Oosthuizen into the referee! Lambie goes to the corner.

  • 18'

Perfectly executed short restart from Italy, who advance. Nice handling as the back row get involved. Parisse over the 22 but the ball is lost forward.

  • 16'

PENALTY, SOUTH AFRICA, LAMBIE! 3-3: No issues there and we're all square.

  • 15'

Brilliant move from the Boks, quick lineout ball of the top at the back and De Villiers thunders forward. Powerful drives as they get close to the line - Habana on the inside ball but he's stopped in his tracks. No gain so back for a penalty to SA - Lambie to go for the posts with an easy kick.

  • 13'

Matfield charges down a clearance kick but Italy recover. McLean finds touch but only just outside the Italian 22.

  • 12'

PENALTY, ITALY, HAIMONA! 3-0: Good strike and the hosts lead.

  • 11'

Monster scrum from the Italians splinters the Bok pack, winning a penalty. Haimona to kick for the posts.

  • 10'

Scrappy at the lineout again, this time an Italian knock on leading to a scrum for the visitors. Reset after the ball flies through the channel. Stoppage for treatment to Ghiraldini.

  • 9'

Effort from the fly-half drops just short of the sticks. SA clear to touch.

  • 8'

Penalty to Italy, turning over Coetzee after the catch and drive. Long attempt for Haimona, on the angle from nearly 50 metres out on the left.

  • 6'

Lambie does enough to clear but it's a penalty anyway for offside. Promising start though for the hosts.

  • 5'

Open passage with attacks from both sides, De Villiers just in touch as he tried to take a pass on the wing. Stolen lineout ball but Italy recover. Good run from Parisse and Masi's grubber pins SA right back by their try line.

  • 3'

Solid enough scrum for the Boks. Lambie tries a cross kick to Pietersen but the ball spills into touch. McLean down for treatment.

  • 2'

Sarto close to stealing a high ball right by the SA 22, but he knocks on. Time for the first scrum!

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of this international Test between Italy and South Africa from Stadio Euganeo in Padova. Don't go away! We'll return shortly with team news.

  • 0'

Springbok head coach Heyneke Meyer has made four changes to the starting XV that defeated England last weekend. Trevor Nyakane will start his first Test for South Africa at loosehead prop, while Coenie Oosthuizen moves up from the bench to replace the injured Jannie du Plessis at tighthead. Teboho Mohoje returns to the starting line-up while Johan Goosen has been selected at full-back. There are additionally five changes on the bench, with uncapped players Nizaam Carr and Julian Redelinghuys in line for their Test debuts. Joining Carr and Redelinghuys on the bench are Gurthrö Steenkamp, Lood de Jager and Willie le Roux.

  • 0'

Fijiian-born flanker Samuela Vunisa will make his Test debut for Italy in this Test. Vunisa comes into the side in place of Simone Favaro, and will join skipper Sergio Parisse and Alessandro Zanni in the back row. That is the only change to the squad from Brunel, with the remaining 22 staying the same after last weekend's narrow 20-18 loss to Argentina. Kelly Haimona continues at fly-half, forming a half-back partnership with Edoardo Gori, while Luca Morisi and Michele Campagnaro continue in the centres. Martin Castrogiovanni will start as part of an experienced front row alongside Leonardo Ghiraldini and Matias Aguero as Italy look for a first-ever win over the Springboks.

  • 0'

Absolutely perfect conditions in Padova as both sides make their way onto the field, blue skies and plenty of sunshine. Time for the anthems.

  • 0'

Time for action! Lambie to start the proceedings. Bouncing ball and SA win it back, reaching the Italian 22. Turnover ball though and Italy attack.
