Goosen at fullback for Boks?

Cape Town - The Springboks could utilise Johan Goosen at fullback during their upcoming year-end tour to Europe.

Willie le Roux is the only regular fullback in the 36-man Springbok squad announced on Monday.

However, Goosen currently plays most of his rugby in the No 15 jersey for his French club, Racing Metro, and may feature there in Springbok colours over the next month.

“Johan is now playing most of his rugby at fullback and is performing very well in a position where I’ve always thought that he could become a great player," Meyer said via a statement released to the media on Monday.

"His versatility will come in handy if needed as he is a similar player to Willie in many ways. We also have Pat Lambie who is a great option at fullback - with a smaller squad for the Rugby World Cup next year, these options will be very important.”

The Springboks will play Tests against Ireland (Dublin, November 8), England (London, November 15), Italy (Padova, November 22) and Wales (Cardiff, November 29).

The game against Italy could perhaps see Meyer experiment with Goosen at fullback.
