Doubt over overseas Boks

Cape Town - The Springboks could be without some of their overseas stars for next week's Test against Scotland in Port Elizabeth.

According to the SARugbymag website, the Test at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on June 28 falls outside the International Rugby Board's Test window.

The issue revolves around IRB Regulation Nine, which stipulates that players are to be released for the second, third and fourth week of June or for three matches.

Because the Boks kicked-off their Test season on June 7 against the World XV, the players who featured in the Cape Town game can be recalled by their overseas clubs, as the game against the Scots would be their fourth on the trot.

This casts doubt over whether the likes of Morné Steyn, Bakkies Botha, Ruan Pienaar, Fourie du Preez, Bryan Habana, Francois Louw, Schalk Brits and Gurthrö Steenkamp will be available for the match.

After the Scotland game, the Boks would have played four matches in a row. Fellow Southern Hemisphere giants, Australia and New Zealand, will only have played three each - against France and England respectively.

The Boks tackle Wales in Nelspruit this coming Saturday.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
