Burger to play in Japan

Cape Town - Springbok and Stormers flank Schalk Burger has signed a deal to play for Japanese club Suntory Sungoliath, the supersport.com website reports.

It is reported to be a two-year deal, starting in August.

Burger will, however, not be lost for South African rugby as his contract allows him to turn out for the Stormers during the Super Rugby season and for the Springboks later in the year.

At Suntory, he will join up with fellow Springbok team-mate Fourie du Preez.

The 31-year-old Burger was on Saturday included in Heyneke Meyer's 36-man Springbok squad for the upcoming June internationals.

The Boks start their year with a game against the World XV at Newlands on June 7, followed by two Tests against Wales (Durban, June 14 and Nelspruit, June 21) and one against Scotland (Port Elizabeth, June 28).
