Boks add four players to camp

Cape Town - Four additional players, Trevor Nyakane, Lood de Jager, Teboho "Oupa" Mohoje and Lizo Gqoboka, have been invited to the Springboks’ training camp in Stellenbosch next week.

The three Free State Cheetahs forwards and the EP Kings prop are not nationally contracted but as their teams did not qualify for the Currie Cup Premier Division playoffs, their unions had been requested to release them for the training camp.

"Trevor, Lood and Oupa formed part of the Springbok squad for the Castle Lager Rugby Championship and it would be good to have them involved in our camp," said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer.

"Lizo has shown a lot of promise this year and although he spent a day with us in camp in Cape Town last month, he was injured and couldn’t train, so we’d like to get another opportunity to work with him."

Meyer thanked the provinces for releasing the players.

The 20 nationally contracted Springboks, as well as any additional players who are invited after their teams had been eliminated from the Currie Cup, will get together for a week-long camp in Stellenbosch on Monday.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
