Bath seek Bok compensation

JJ Harmse

Pretoria – Bath are seeking compensation after Springbok flyhalf Butch James returned from international duty with an injury.

James has had a successful shoulder operation in England after picking up an injury in the Boks’ Tri-Nations win over Australia in Pretoria.

He will be out of action until at least November and will not play for English club side Bath during that time.

The rugby club is not at all happy and Bath performance director Ian McGeechan has said that they may be seeking compensation.

“We’re making enquiries because he was injured elsewhere and there should be accountability,” McGeechan told BBC Sport.

The South African Rugby Union (SARU) said they had not received any request from Bath.

SARU communications manager Andy Colquhoun said they were not aware of any possible claims.

“We have not heard from Bath in that regard.”
