Cape Town - ASICS on Thursday released the first video in a teaser series ahead of the launch of the official Springboks Rugby World Cup jersey in June.

VIDEO: ASICS' Springboks RWC jersey teaser

Committed to performance, ASICS designs every detail of its rugby apparel and footwear to benefit the wearer. The series of videos focuses on the performance advantages that can be gained through rugby apparel and footwear innovations.

Each video highlights a key element of the Springboks apparel for the upcoming tournament, developed by ASICS with direct insights from the world’s best players, the Springboks rugby team.

The first video, launched April 30, 2015, focuses on the jersey and demonstrates intensive product testing being undertaken to help players perform at their peak. Using high-tech materials, an innovative weaving design, and shapes that offer the most contact with the ball on the shirt, ASICS has created a product which enhances the player’s grip, both on each other and the ball.

As the true sport performance brand, ASICS invited the Springboks rugby team to its renowned ASICS Institute of Sport Science (ISS), Kobe, Japan, to take part in rugby-specific performance testing of their bodies, apparel and footwear to ensure they have the edge at the upcoming Rugby World Cup 2015. The ISS is at the forefront of research into sports product, helping athletes achieve their goals.

Featuring Jean de Villiers, Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira, Eben Etzebeth, Duane Vermeulen, Bismarck du Plessis, Willie Le Roux, Patrick Lambie and Cornal Hendricks the videos are energetic, powerful and scientific, clearly displaying the insights, innovation and rugby philosophy of ASICS.

The five videos will be released each week in the build up to the official launch on June 4, 2015. Each video demonstrates ASICS technical advancement in assisting with player recovery, stamina, movement and performance.

Springboks coach Heyneke Meyer said, “Working closely with ASICS provides an extra level of insight which at the highest level of sport in today’s game is invaluable. As a partnership, we have sought to understand all the areas we can improve and ensure we are prepared for every game.”

Max Keen, Marketing Manager, ASICS Europe B.V. “‘We are passionate about preparation and performance, as success is not an accident. By collecting data and insights from the world’s best players, we create products which actively enhance a wearer’s performance. Together with the South African Rugby Union, we have developed apparel and footwear that will help the Springboks achieve the ultimate goal of lifting the Webb Ellis trophy for a historic third time.”

The official Springboks Rugby World Cup jersey launch will be on June 4, 2015. It will also be available online at www.asics.co.uk
