Sonny Bill a joke - Oz boxer

2012-02-03 08:07

Cape Town - Australia's amateur boxing captain, Luke Jackson, has labelled All Black rugby player and professional boxer Sonny Bill Williams as a joke.

"Sonny Bill Williams is a joke," Jackson was quoted as saying on the NZ Herald website.

"He's a good footy player.

"They're just putting him on with guys who don't know how to fight and try and make him look good.

"He's a good-looking bloke and he's a monster of a man but he's not much of a boxer.

"He's no Anthony Mundine, that's for sure."

Jackson says the Olympics is the pinnacle in a sport he'd rather pursue for love than money.

"Anyone can turn professional," Jackson told AAP on Tuesday ahead of the Australian Amateur Boxing Championships that began on Wednesday.

"A lot of the guys that turn professional wouldn't even last in the ring with a successful amateur boxer.

"To win an Olympic gold medal is harder than any professional world title ever."

agreed with this guy!!!, SBW boxing is a joke, if he fought real competitors he would be taking big hits and wouldnt be able to play rugby, hes just fighting losers trying to stay pretty.

      werner.gibbs - 2012-02-03 09:07

All good to say that to SBW, but generalising Amateur vs Pro in the way he does, discredits him completely! Statements like: "Anyone can turn professional," and "To win an Olympic gold medal is harder than any professional world title ever." I mean, say that to the likes of the real pro's who have successfully competed in amateur boxing and have since progressed to the professional arena. If it is something that you really love, why the heck not make loads of money from it???

      mark.a.salthouse - 2012-02-03 09:19

Werner, that the point jason is making. The real amateurs that have spent years learning their craft and probably going to the Olympics a couple of times, then turning Pro are the true "professionals" and in all probability become world champs. Anyone can turn pro without doing any meaningful amateur "time" like SBW. As jason say's it's a joke and the likel;yhood of him becoming a world beater is unlikely!!!

      ivan.coetzee2 - 2012-02-03 10:48

I care less about his boxing, I think he's an awesome Rugby talent, and its rugbys' gain, boxings loss, so rugby enthusiast win. Anyway this Luke Jackson is having a random rant, is jealous of SBW's success and status (probably SBW's girlfriend too). Jackson just trying to get some publicity.

      Pierre - 2012-02-03 10:49

SBW… O yes the stand in centre for Ma’a Nonu.

      Sonny - 2012-02-03 11:35

If a player started playing in a club team in the 4th division and scored a try and got the same media attention SBW does would you belittle them and say they need to man up and play in the Premiership or Super Rugby comps? Hell no. They learn their trade at a lower level just like Sonny Bill is doing. You answer your own opinions by saying he isnt much of a boxer and yet he needs to fight real pros to prove it. What if Sonny Bill decided to juggle his Super Rugby with being a Car Salesman? He sells a couple of cars after a little training and everyone bags him saying he needs to sell 100 cars a week and also sell more than the top salesman at Ford, BMW and Mercedes before they take him seriously. If you look at the whole picture, SBW is the most Googled person in NZ and is a Dual International and was offered the highest contract in Rugby history and has the X-factor and so on and so on... You guys that knock this kid SBW for living his life need to take a long hard look at your own pathetic lives.

  • Bulldozer - 2012-02-03 08:16

Luke, for a 57kg featherweight you've got a big mouth, considering you are talking about a 100+kg athelete, who boxes a little, by the way.

      Nibiru - 2012-02-03 08:22

Seems like you know as much about rugby as about boxing

      Burtfred - 2012-02-03 08:33

Bulldozer - an appropriate name for someone with little tact or diplomacy. It seems your apology about the comment you made Rathbone the other day was a bit hollow. You're still passing judgement on people you know little about. Judge not, lest ye be judged............

      Chrono - 2012-02-03 08:36

Yes but SBW is so poor in the ring I'm sure this little guy will give him a run for his money!

      Bulldozer - 2012-02-03 08:59

Burtfred, even though I didn't make fun of Clyde's illness, what I said was distasteful and I apologised. I know little about Luke Jackson, but I do know he weighs 57kg. By talking rubbish about a boxer, who is twice your size, is a little stupid. I wasn't passing judgement, I was stating the facts. Please take your head out of your arse.

      Bulldozer - 2012-02-03 09:28

Wtf don't you maggots get? A featherweight talking rubbish about a heavyweight. Come on. You take ignorance to the next level, if you think the oke is clever. Bring on the 'thumbs down'. I love it!

      Hallo - 2012-02-03 10:03

Bulldooser - What does weight have to do with it? You have no clue about boxing. U suggest you look closely at the opponents SBW fights and how useless they really are.

      Bulldozer - 2012-02-03 10:15

Hello, I never said Sonny Bill was the be all and end all of boxing. I merely meant that a 100+kg guy who can box a little will probably need only 1 decent punch if he fights a 57kg bloke. You don't seem to have a clue about anything. Jy is wraggies dommer as n sak sement.

      Pierre - 2012-02-03 10:41

@Bulldoser - I liked your Stomers joke on Clyde's article. I did not see it as making fun of Clyde. (Maybe the mood after the article was a bit somber for some people.)

      ivan.coetzee2 - 2012-02-03 10:45

Guys you cant take BULLTOSSER seriously, even the blue bulls would be happy if he went and supported the EP Kings

      Bulldozer - 2012-02-03 11:15

Thanks Pierre. At last somebody else, besides me, with a 200+ IQ. Refreshing.

      Hallo - 2012-02-03 11:19

@Bullidiot - A decent 57kg boxer could do the same to a heavy weight. What can like to be your point idiot?

      Bulldozer - 2012-02-03 11:58

''What can like to be your point idiot?'' Makes no sense whatsoever.

      Rodney - 2012-02-03 12:08

i agree this luke fellow is just jealous . typical auzzie idiot ..

      Hallo - 2012-02-03 14:05

      *facepalm* @ bullshtr

      Bulldozer - 2012-02-03 14:16

      Original Hallo. Very.

      Tyrone - 2012-02-04 09:13

i agree with Bulldozer. if you think size doesnt matter, ur wrong..

  • gertvr - 2012-02-03 08:20

He gave all his winnings to charity...So who cares who he fights. The Aussies just don't like him, because he walked away from a rugby league contract to go and play Union in Europe...Down Under that's as bad as killing someone ...

  • hudds - 2012-02-03 08:23

Couldn't agree more.. SBW is one of the most pathetic boxers I have actually ever seen! Watched a fight of him taking on an fat, slow and down right rookie boxer who was in fact a choir singer and he barely beat him. @bulldozer.. I bet this 57kg featherweight would knock SBW out with one proper punch!!

      Jimmy - 2012-02-03 08:54

Are you talking about real boxers, or is that code for the wee-pee backline, cause he did make them look fat, slow and very average..... :)

      Bulldozer - 2012-02-03 09:02

Good luck to the featherweight. He probably has a much shorter reach, so I'm not so sure how he's going to connect properly in the first place. Hudds, I can't remember any of your rugby comments, but I sure hope you know more about rugby than boxing.

      Gungets - 2012-02-03 09:54

A good small boxer will beat a poor big boxer. SBW will chase the lightie around the ring all day and no connect. His only chance would be to turn it into WWE and that will be reffed to death. Might not knock him out but the points count will be off the scale, especially if they use amateur scoring.

  • Franklyn - 2012-02-03 08:25

Money Bill does it for love and money, have no doubt folks...a lot of people are planning to make big bucks out of this guy.

  • renejupp - 2012-02-03 08:29

    Wannabe "Bill" Williams...

  • hendrik.pienaar - 2012-02-03 08:31

He's right, SBW is a joke. Fight Shane Cameron. Prove what you're made of.... Sadly it would result in a knock-out after about 10 seconds.

  • Ulrich Davis - 2012-02-03 08:42

Hahaha!!! Pathetic!!! All of yall is just a bunch of HATERS!!! SBW got the SWAGG and yall can't handle it!!! Your wifes and girlfriends will drop your asses if they cud get a chance with the WORLD CHAMPION - SBW!!! Stop HATEN!!! Especially those reindeer oh my bad springbok supporters!!! ALL BLACKS FOREVER!!!

      Ben Nel - 2012-02-03 09:53

Ulrich, sounds like you are also too willing to "drop your ass" for SBW

      CapeChappy - 2012-02-03 14:36

Wow... I didn't realise people in Paarl spoke like that. Kind of a retarded redneck kid from Alabama. I will HAVE to pay more attention next time I'm in the winelands.

  • Johan - 2012-02-03 08:49

I agree, I've seen SBW fight. He doesn't look comfortable in the ring and he definitely doesn't look like a boxer.

  • Koos - 2012-02-03 08:50

Have anyone here even seen one of his fights? Well, it's true even for a layman like me it’s obvious that he doesn’t carry himself in the ring like a good professional boxer. He’s going to smell the canvas in his first fight with a good professional fighter. This Oz boxing bloke has got a point, but he could’ve put it more discreetly.

  • Brannas - 2012-02-03 08:51

SBW is all brawn and no brains, will fit in perfectly at the stormers, same mentallity.

      Bulldozer - 2012-02-03 09:05

Sy rugby gaan agteruit gaan as hy WP toe gaan.

      Brannas - 2012-02-03 09:13

Enige verandering in die Stormer span is n' verbetering.

      Jacqui Richards - 2012-02-03 19:11

Yes he would indeed fit in nicely with the Stormers (SA top Super Rugby team 2011) as he was rated one of the best players in 2011 and changed the way teams defend and play the game!

  • Charlie - 2012-02-03 10:33

Bulldozer - your comments are really puerile. Jackson is entitled to make comment as he so wishes. Charlize Theron could say that Sonny Bill is a crap boxer if she wishes. Your logic is perhaps an indication of your maturity which is made to look quite silly in its complete absence.

      Bulldozer - 2012-02-03 10:38

Yes dingdong, he is entitled to his opinion. Am I not?

  • pete.rudder - 2012-02-03 11:26

Sonny Bill sometimes forgets that a head shot is for the boxing ring not the rugby field and the longer he boxes the more confused he'll get.

  • Wimpie - 2012-02-03 11:50

    Now that is TRUE !!!

  • Melt - 2012-02-03 13:06

      Bulldozer - 2012-02-03 13:19

Melt, ons sal probeer, maar ek belowe niks. Terloops, Bulldowzer is my neef. Hy comment nie hier nie.

      Melt - 2012-02-03 13:45

Gte

      Bulldozer - 2012-02-03 13:59

Jislaaik, jy het my nou ontkant gevang. Ek moes nou eers gaan google wat n agsteman is en wie daar speel.. Kyk man, ou Pierre is klas, maar ek dink CJ is beter. Tussen daai twee, Steggies, Tecklenburg, Cook en die 2 Potgieters het ons sommer baie keuses vir die losmanne.

  • Michael - 2012-02-03 23:35

Who really gives a crap about this story anyway. You people take these stories WAY to personal.

  • Bootman - 2012-02-18 17:33

Total joker! Bakkies will whack him into space!
