Solly excited by Mallett reunion

Cape Town - Alan Solomons is excited by the prospect of re-uniting with Nick Mallett when they take charge of the World XV against the Springboks.

Solomons will be Mallett's assistant for the match at Newlands on June 7.

Solomons, who currently coaches Scottish side Edinburgh, was also Mallett's assistant during the Springboks' record run of 17 victories in 1998.

"Nick and I coached the Springboks for a number of years so I'm looking forward to meeting up with him again and coaching what looks set to be a very talented team," Solomons told Edinburgh's official website.

"It'll be special to play against South Africa back at Newlands (home of Solomons' former side, the Stormers), at the beginning of their Rugby Championship and World Cup preparations."

All Black legend Carl Hayman and Bok World Cup winner BJ Botha have been named as front-rankers in the first release of confirmed participants named by organisers.

The backline will feature Wallabies James O’Connor, Matt Giteau and Drew Mitchell as well as All Black wing Hosea Gear.

France will be represented by No 8 Julien Bonnaire and inside back François Trinh-Duc, while Toulon-based England flank Steffon Armitage is part of a Six Nations triumvirate.

The rest of the squad will be named later.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
