'Slaptjips' to coach top Cape school

Cape Town - Former Springbok wing Pieter Rossouw has been appointed Director of Rugby at his former school, Paarl Gimnasium.

'Slaptjips' recently returned to the Western Cape after spending eight years as backline coach of the Bulls. He was also Namibia’s backline coach at the recent Rugby World Cup in England.

Coaching Paarl Gimnasium's first XV, Rossouw will be assisted by former Maties captain Helmut Lehmann.

The school’s headmaster, Eddie Bateman, welcomed the appointment of Rossouw.

“Pieter’s experience, knowledge and vision will be invaluable to promote and further develop rugby at the school,” Batemen said via the school’s official website.

Rossouw, 43, played 43 Tests for the Boks between 1997 and 2003.

He mainly played for Western Province and the Stormers at provincial level.
