London - Scotland wing Sean Maitland has been ruled out of this weekend's Calcutta Cup clash against England at Murrayfield, the Scottish Rugby Union announced Monday.
The New Zealand-born flyer went off injured in the first half of Scotland's tournament-opening 28-6 defeat by Ireland in Dublin on Sunday, suffering both concussion and an injury to his right leg.
Scottish Rugby's head of medical performance, Paul McGinley, said in a statement: "Sean suffered a concussion as well as injury to his right leg yesterday (Sunday).
"He will be subject to further investigation today at Spire Murrayfield hospital and will be assessed later by consultant surgeon Graham Lawson.
"We also have a number of injuries at this juncture which will impact on availability to train at the start of this week but we are optimistic that players will recover in time for the England game."
Maitland was replaced at Lansdowne Road by Max Evans, who could now find himself in the starting XV come Saturday's match in Edinburgh.
Scotland coach Scott Johnson is due to name his side to play England, beaten 26-24 away to France in their Six Nations opener, on Wednesday.
