Sharks mascot wins award

Durban - The iconic Sharks mascot, Sharkie, has received an award in Milan at the recently held 19th Milano International FICTS Festival 2011 in honour of Sport, Movies & TV.

Sharkie was introduced into the animated world of cinema this year, when he underwent a transformation and became a three dimensional character on the big screen. A 30-second advert brought him to "life" depicting Sharkie as a 21st century superhero.

The annual international festival, showcasing sports television and cinema, is organised by FICTS (Federation Internationale Cinema Television Sportifs), an organisation recognised by the International Olympic Committee, whose main aim is to develop and promote “Culture through Sport”.

At the Awards Ceremony, under the category of Sport Adverts, Sharkie received the “Mention D’Honneur” award.

Marketing Manager of The Sharks, Mike Ablett was delighted to hear the news, “It is fantastic that a product of our brand has received international recognition in a highly competitive market."
