Sex claim has shattered Davies

Cape Town - SuperSport TV presenter Peter Davies and his family are "shattered" after he appeared in court on a charge of sexual assault.

According to the Rapport newspaper, Davies appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday, facing charges of sexually assaulting a minor. The boy claims the incident appeared in the Virgin Active gymnasium in Randburg.

SuperSport has subsequently taken Davies off air pending the outcome of the court case. Davies was due to host the Rugby World Cup programme, 'Kia Ora New Zealand'.

Davies's lawyer, Peter Grealy, says his client faces a whole bunch of statutory charges regarding the the bill on sexual transgressions.

Davies apparently exposed himself and masturbated in front of the boy, but is yet to plead in court on the charges.

Grealy described the charges as "serious".

Davies told Rapport his wife and two daughters, aged six and eight, are shattered by the news.

SuperSport's spokesperson, Clinton van der Berg, says Davies has not been fired but agreed not to broadcast while the court case is still pending. He will still receive a salary.

"We cannot speculate on the matter and he is innocent until proven guilty," said Van der Berg.
