Sage looks to take Sevens chance

Cape Town - With Werner Kok and Cecil Afrika now officially ruled out of this weekend's Sevens World Series leg in Cape Town, the uncapped Dylan Sage will be looking to take his chance.

Sage and Rosko Specman were both called up as reinforcements this week, and with coach Neil Powell's confirmation on Wednesday that he will lose two of his stalwarts in Afrika and Kok, the time is now for Sage.

"I'm honoured and privileged and working hard," Sage said from the Waterfront on Wednesday.

"I think we've pit in some good processes, we've worked hard in the pre-season and the boys are ready."

Sage is a forward - a loosehead - in Sevens while he played at centre for the University of Cape Town in the Varsity Cup earlier this year.

"It's a big adjustment but it's been a long pre-season and I've learnt a lot things so I'm ready for it," he said.

"It's a different game, it's more open so you have to adapt to that fitness standard. A lot running, a lot of conditioning ... but I've worked very hard."

Sage, from Cape Town, now faces the prospect of making his international debut in front of 55 000 people.

"I have to make the side first, I'm only in the squad ... but it's something I'm very excited about."
