Springbok Women's Sevens side thrashed by NZ in CT opener

Cape Town - The Springbok Women's Sevens side lost in their opening Pool A encounter against New Zealand at Cape Town Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The Black Ferns won 40-0 after leading 21-0 at half-time.

The defending women's title side scored six tries via Shiray Kaka, Tyla Nathan-Wong, Mahina Paul, Gayle Broughton and a brace by Alena Saili.

Nathan-Wong landed three conversions and replacement Risi Pouri-Lane slotted two conversions.

The South Africans have now played New Zealand six times and lost all six.

The Imbokodo's next Pool A clash will be against Russia (10:13) and Fiji (16:03) on Saturday.
