Blitzboks wait on Snyman

Johannesburg - There has been some light at the end of the tunnel for the Springbok Sevens team ahead of their next assignment in the HSBC Sevens Series in Las Vegas and Vancouver.

According to SuperSport.com, after the departure of their 15s stars Cheslin Kolbe, Juan de Jongh (Stormers), Rayno Benjamin (Cheetahs) and Francois Hougaard to the longer version of the game, the Bok Sevens team set about going through the long injury list, which looks surprisingly rosy considering where they were a few weeks ago.

The Blitzboks are waiting on a final word on interim captain Phillip Snyman, who injured his wrist during the Sydney Sevens two weekends ago, but the initial diagnosis is that the injury isnt as bad as initially feared.

Snyman will see a specialist for a second opinion this week and is likely to have better news than expected, meaning he should be able to link up with his teammates sooner rather than later.

Added to this is the fact that regular Sevens stars Branco du Preez, Cecil Afrika and captain Kyle Brown are all over their injuries and have returned to training, which will give the Blitzboks a boost.

Justin Geduld is still out for another 2 weeks with his shoulder injury, which makes him in a race against time to be ready for Vegas, while Frankie Horne still has a while to go with his ankle injury and has just had the cast removed and is in a moonboot right now.

Werner Kok's chances of making the rest of the World Series look slim given his long term injury but he may well be ready just before the Olympic Games in August.
