Cape Town - Springbok Sevens star Werner Kok says he will not be available for Western Province during this year’s Currie Cup.
Kok was a star performance on the wing for WP during their victorious 2017 campaign but he has revealed that he will not play in this year’s edition.
The 25-year-old told Netwerk24 that he wants to rest and instead focus on sevens.
“My plans have been made. I don’t think I’m going to play Currie Cup. I want to stay at the sevens team and I’m aiming for the Olympic Games in 2020.”
Kok struggled with injuries during the Blitzboks' 2017/18 World Rugby Sevens campaign but returned to help the team defend their series title when they won the Paris Sevens last month.
His immediate goal is to help the South African team win the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco, USA.
The Blitzboks are currently hard at work for the event, scheduled for July 20-22.
