Cape Town - South Africa made a solid start to their title defence of the Las Vegas Sevens in he early hours of Saturday morning, racking up solid wins over Portugal and Japan to lead their pool.
Once again it was speedster Seabelo Senatla that stood out, scoring three tries in the two games as the Blitzboks looked focused and determined by their task.
The defending champs began the tournament with a workmanlike 19-0 win over a plucky Portugese side, who were more than a handful on the day.
After Ryno Benjamin opened the scoring, Senatla beat the defence for pace to add a second while Werner Kok added the third on the stroke of full-tme.
It was easier against Japan though as the Blitzboks sped away to a 28-0 lead then closed out well to complete phase one of their task.
Senatla scored twice, both through pure pace, and made a try for Cecil Afrika, offloading at the right moment to the playmaker to score.
Benjamin, veteran Frankie Horne and Phillip Snyman all added tries to complete the big win.
The Blitzboks will complete their pool fixtures against hosts USA at 22:40 tonight.
