Cape Town - Sharks loose forward Ryan Kankowski is likely to be called up to the Springbok Sevens squad, a report on Die Burger's website indicates.
Kankowski was on Saturday night left out of Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer's final 34-man squad for the upcoming series featuring South Africa, Italy, Scotland and Samoa.
Meyer then revealed that Kankowski will play sevens rugby over the next few weeks.
Springbok Sevens coach Paul Treu will on Monday name a preliminary squad of 20 players ahead of the World Cup Sevens in Moscow from June 28-30.
The final squad of 12 players for the tournament will be named on June 20, with the Blitzbokke also scheduled to play in the Roma Sevens on June 14 and 15.
Kankowski has fallen out of favour at the Sharks and is likely to leave the Durban-based union. Therefore, due to the uncertainty regarding his future, Meyer decided not to include him in his final squad.
"I had an open discussion with Ryan. He is uncertain about his future. I have to pick guys who I'm certain will stay in South Africa and be part of my long-term plans," said Meyer.
Meanwhile, it was also reported that Kankowski is in talks with Western Province regarding a possible move to Cape Town but nothing is cast in stone.
