The Springbok Sevens will host England in the Cup quarterfinals of the Emirates Airline SA Sevens tournament on Saturday.
The Boks topped pool D after they secured convincing victories over Argentina (29-5), Zimbabwe (33-7) and Portugal (38-0) at the Outeniqua Park Stadium in George on Friday.
Winger Sibusiso Sithole who represented the SA U20s during the 2010 IRB Junior World Championships in Argentina earlier this year was the star performer for the host in their final game of the day as the Blitz Boks scored five tries during their victory over the Pumas.
Sithole added a brace while captain Kyle Brown, former skipper Paul Delport and their physical winger Bernado Botha all added their names to the try-scoring sheet. Argentina’s only five pointer of the game was scored by Santiago Bottini.
Meanwhile Springbok Sevens opened their 2010 Emirates Airline SA Sevens tournament in style on Friday after they ran in six tries to defeat Portugal 38-0 in George.
The Boks were always in control of this match from the kick off and held a comfortable 26-0 lead at the break after they scored four tries thanks to the efforts of Cecil Afrika, Kyle Brown, Bernado Botha and Petrus Engelbrecht. Afrika converted three tries.
In the second half Brown added his second five points shortly after the restart before Steven Hunt added the hosts’ sixth try which he converted.
The Boks starved the Portuguese of possession throughout the game thanks to their excellent recycling of the ball off their own kick-offs.
The Springbok Sevens secured their second pool D victory on Friday when they defeated Zimbabwe 33-7 in George on Friday.
Cecil Afrika continued his impressive form at Outeniqua Park after scoring 18 points thanks to two tries and four conversions.
The Bok flyer successfully converted both his five-pointers as well as the tries scored by Petrus Engelbrecht, Bernado Botha. Tafadzwa Chitokwindo scored Zimbabwe’s only try of the game which was converted by Tangai Nemadire.
Springbok Sevens Player of the Year (2009) Frankie Horne currently also enjoying a storming Emirates Airline SA Sevens tournament score the hosts’ fifth try.
In the other Cup quarterfinals scheduled for Saturday, New Zealand who topped pool C will face Argentina (13h50), while Fiji will take on Australia at 14h12. The fourth Cup playoff tie will feature Wales and Samoa.
