Dubai - The Springbok Sevens team tried to make amends on day two for their disappointing campaign at this year’s Dubai Sevens by beating Russia 25-12.
The Blitzbokke came from behind to beat Russia in the bowl competition of the Dubai Sevens.
Day one of the Dubai tournament was a forgettable one for the South African sevens team, as they lost to both Portugal and Samoa in the group phase.
It was the first time since Wellington in 2001 that the Blitzbokke had failed to reach the cup phase of a sevens competition.
Russia lead 12-5 at the break, but a strong second-half performance with tries from Stephen Hunt, Warren Whiteley and Frankie Horne to put them back into the lead.
They now move into the semifinals of the bowl, where they will face the United States.
