Cape Town - The Springbok Sevens team comfortably defeated Kenya in their second match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens on Saturday.

FIXTURES AND RESULTS FROM THE NELSON MANDELA BAY SEVENS

The Blitzbokke won 38-7, after leading 26-0 at the break.

The hosts ran in six tries against a hapless Kenyan side, who are coached by former South African coach Paul Treu.

It will be Treu’s last tournament as Kenya coach though, after he announced earlier this week that he will step down after this weekend’s tournament in Port Elizabeth.

The Kenyan team environment had been disrupted by player strikes in recent times, while a reported drug scandal had also unsettled matters.

The Kenyans also looked unsettled on the park on Saturday, dropping passes and slipping tackles far too often for comfort.

Western Province speedster Seabelo Senatla continued to rake in the tries for South Africa, bagging a brace, while veteran Cecil Afrika moved closer to becoming the most decorated points scorer for his country on the Sevens World Series circuit.

Afrika scored a try to take his tally to 923 - only two behind all-time South African record holder Fabian Juries, who scored 925 points in his career.

Afrika will get a chance to break Juries’s record when South Africa play their last game of the day against Wales (20:58 kick-off).

In their first game of the day, the Blitzbokke defeated America 26-0.

Scorers:

South Africa:

Tries: Seabelo Senatla (2), Branco du Preez, Cecil Afrika, Werner Kok, Rayno Benjamin
Conversions: Du Preez (3), Warrick Gelant

Kenya:

Try: Jacob Ojee
Conversion: Tony Opondo

Considering the high scores with which they beat the ABs and OZ in the Dubai tournament, the Blitzies certainly seem to be in a different class right now. Let's hope it continues for the rest of the SA tournament.
