Blitzbokke ousted by Kiwis

2012-12-09 17:16

Cape Town - The Blitzbokke's hopes of winning the Port Elizabeth Sevens are shattered after losing 12-5 to New Zealand in the Cup semi-finals on Sunday.

Paul Delport gave South Africa a 5-0 lead early in the game, but the Kiwis quickly hit back with a try by Kurt Baker to level matters going into the break.

The second half was a tightly contested affair, with both teams holding firm on defence. However, the deadlock was broken one minute from time when Ben Lam scored for the visitors after South Africa lost possession deep inside their own half. Tomasi Cama converted for a 12-5 victory.

New Zealand will play France in the final at 19:30 on Sunday, after the French defeated Argentina 10-7 after extra time of their semi-final.

South Africa will now face the Argentineans in the third place playoff at 18:58.

Sad news. Our boys played hard but just not clever enough, I think. Better luck next time

  • leon.carstens.77 - 2012-12-09 18:15

    They always lose so what!!!

      Flemstone - 2012-12-09 19:42

A few things. Its at home. Its against NZ. And it happened because one bloke made a mistake. If they went through, I'm sure they would have won the final. So what? Well South Africans want and need to be proud of something. This would have done just that.

BLITZBOKKE!!!!!! What a joke. You need to think up a more appropriate name.

      ckrohne1 - 2012-12-10 13:55

Not good enough, simples. The stadium is too big to host this tournament. Looks awful with all the empty seats. I reckon Athlone stadium in CT looks a good venue although the AB's will then have even more support.

There was more south african all black supporters than springbok supporters who travelled from all over the country to support the world champions men in black. Time you so called patriotic south africans relate as to why we support the new zealanders. We support the best.

      Flemstone - 2012-12-09 23:06

Its a bit convenient supporting the best. Don't you think its the underdogs that need the support more? How about supporting some other African countries? They're coming from areas that are a lot poorer than SA, and putting on a great show. You don't only have to support one team. You could be showing your support for many other countries. But no, you pick the worlds best. Even though you have no connection with that country. Its like me supporting Obama while I live in the UK.

      rocco.dewet.3 - 2012-12-10 02:52

Or bragging about your neigbour's Lamborghini when you drive a Toyota. Laughable isn't it?

      simone.dechandra.7 - 2012-12-10 07:39

And won't give you a passport. They have enough alcoholic courier drivers and call centre minions . Because frankly what else do you do?

      xanavin.vonbuchenroder - 2012-12-10 08:18

@ Simone. I see you generalising here hey. So I suppose you trying to say that's all we 'non-whites' are good at. Being drunk courier drivers and call centre workers cos we uneducated???

      ckrohne1 - 2012-12-10 13:39

Dan, you just show- cased your level of maturity. You support the all blacks because their the best and they Are the Best. No argument there. The thing is you don't support a sports team just because their the best. There is something the level headed people called patriotism....I am Namibian and support my national sports teams come what may even if my rugby team lost 142 against the Wallabies in one world cup game. You still hate the Boks based on race hate- appartheid? You are the sad person and not those SAFFA's supporting their national sport teams. Go Welwitchia's Go Bokke.

      xanavin.vonbuchenroder - 2012-12-10 14:16

@ ckrohne. If I understand Dan correctly he states that he supports the All Blacks because they are the best. He does'nt mention anything about apartheid or quotas etc etc. What you Springboks want us to believe is that we support the AB's cos of apartheid which is very untrue. I personally support the AB's cos for me they are the best. And to set the record straight I have white 'boere' friends who support the AB's too. So I guess those white friends of mine also support because of apartheid???

      simone.dechandra.7 - 2012-12-10 16:05

fact remains xanavin you are also a call centre agent point PROVEN

      ckrohne1 - 2012-12-10 21:41

@ xanavin.vonbuchenroder - Xananvin, supporting the all blacks based on the rugby they play is a smoke screen these people use. It's the political thing correct to say. Besides, there is no reason at all to support the exact opposite team to your country men. There never was and there never will be! What do you mean by “What you Springboks want us to believe is that we support the AB's cos of apartheid which is very untrue." I know firsthand that some of these people do support the all blacks because of apartheid. And you know how I know that? They told me so on numerous occasions. This is how the wording normally goes and I quote, “I’ll never support a Boere Span!" Many coloreds from here studied in SA(Cape Town) and it is where they got they convictions from. As for the white SAFFA's supporting the all blacks, well many of them shift their support due to a colored coach taking over. I know at least one such Afrikaner. The point is- YOU DON'T SUPPORT ANOTHER COUNTRY BECAUSE THEY ARE BETTER THAN YOUR OWN COUNTRY. That's just shallow....

      Caleb - 2012-12-10 21:50

I thought you guys now lived amongst democratic equality, where freedom of speech is a valued by everyone. Let the guy support who he wants to support and keep your bitterness to yourself. Telling people what they should do and who they should support is just glimpses of the old regime.

      ckrohne1 - 2012-12-11 06:42

@caleb.drumm.1: Why don't you start supporting the Springboks? It's the time when the true colors of what you saying is tested. I've never heard of born NZ'lander supporting opposition to their country. Why do you think that is? What ignorant foreigners like you don't get is that these people support the all blacks because they in general hate Afrikaners, hate their country, cant forgive and forget and or simply because they like to be associated only with a team apparently win at all times.

  • goofree - 2012-12-16 11:43

Democratic equality right!! that supposed to give you freedom of choice .
