Blitzbokke get opening win

Johannesburg - Neil Powell's Springbok Sevens squad opened their Dubai Sevens campaign with a strong workmanlike 17-7 win over Argentina on Friday.

According to the supersport.com website, playing in the tournament's opening game, the Blitzbokke outscored the Argentines three tries to one to get their campaign started on the right note.

But it was tough as the opening salvos gave the Pumas the opening hand and the Blitzbokke were stuck in their own half.

They managed to find some room eventually as Jamba Ulengo backed his pace and tiptoed down the touchline to score the opening try.

A minute later some great interplay saw veteran Frankie Horne power his way over from close range to rack up a 10-0 lead.

Argentina scored early in the second half but quick thinking by Chris Dry, who tapped and went from a penalty, made the game safe for the South Africans.

They now face Russia at 11:10 this morning and finish off their Pool D fixtures against defending Dubai champs Samoa at 16:54 this afternoon.

All games are live on SuperSport1 and SSHD1.
