Cape Town - The South African Rugby Union (SARU) on Wednesday welcomed Klipdrift into its sponsorship family at a launch event at the famous brandy distillery in Robertson.

Jurie Roux, SARU CEO, said he was delighted to announce a new sponsorship, especially in difficult financial times.

“We are very fortunate to have a number of extremely keen sponsors as part of our family and we’re excited to be working with Klipdrift for the next five years,” said Roux.

“South African hospitality and generosity are synonymous with Klipdrift and SARU is excited to have them join the SARU sponsorship family.”

The sponsorship sees two iconic South African household names coming together with Klipdrift signing a five-year sponsorship deal with SARU to become the official brandy supplier to the Springboks. The announcement was made at the Klipdrift Brandy Distillery and marks the company’s first involvement with a leading South African national team.

The deal includes exclusive product rights within their category, pouring rights at SARU functions, the right to distribute premiums, which allows Klipdrift exclusive branding and commercial rights to point of sale product, as well as branding rights in advertising campaigns.

Wim Buhrmann, CEO of Distell South Africa, believes that rugby has the power to unite everyone on a level playing field, especially here in South Africa.

“Klipdrift and Springbok rugby are both iconic brands that embody optimism, strong traditional heritage and above all are proudly South African. This combination makes Klipdrift very proud and excited to be welcoming the Springboks into the Distell family, a relationship that will only be nurtured with the greatest of respect and pride,” commented Buhrmann.

"Official brandy supplier to the Springboks" WTF???? With the tough international season ahead of them, the last thing on the Springboks mind should be who will be supplying their brandy. Suppose Heineke and Victor will need a stiff drink when they get brought back to earth by England.

      hannes.handogg - 2012-04-18 16:16

Terence my bra!? Seriously? Because you didn't like the coach!!? I mean each to his own my friend, but rooting for a team that plays AGAINST your own national team because you don't like the coach, just doesn't sound very logical to me! You cut me deep Terence. You cut me real deep. Anyway, thanks to Klipdrift, some of the opposition supporters might accidentally shout for the Boks, so that should equalize the situation. Lekker dag ou maat.

      hannes.handogg - 2012-04-18 16:21

Dude, I'll support the Boks if they make Robert Mugabe the coach. Bokke is my span. Finish en klaar.

Ha Ha Ha! Official brandy supplier to the Springboks! Whatever next? You'd think they had more important things on their minds than who was supplying their brandy!

      Bootman - 2012-04-18 16:09

Is there an echo in here?
